January 18, 2000-Dearborn, MI-Each year, MacHack, The Annual Conference for
Leading Edge Developers, headlines visionaries and leaders of personal
computing with a unique focus on the Macintosh. The 2000 conference
represents a departure for MacHack.

Reaching beyond the traditional Macintosh community, MacHack is pleased to
announce that Eric S. Raymond, open-source and linux luminary will keynote
the June 22 event.

"We've spent years shaming hack authors into giving their source code away
for the benefit of their fellow SmartFriends?," said Scott Boyd, cofounder
of the MacHax? Group. "We never dreamed that it would make commercial
sense. Eric Raymond is crazy enough to tell the world that it will work."

Mr. Raymond is an observer-participant anthropologist in the Internet
hacker culture. His research has helped explain the decentralized
open-source model of software development that has proven so effective in
the evolution of the Internet. His own software projects include one of the
Internet's most widely-used email transport programs. Mr. Raymond is also a
science fiction fan, a musician, an activist for the First and Second
Amendments, and a martial artist with a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. His home
page is at (http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr).

The keynote kicks off the MacHack conference at 12:01 AM on Thursday, June
