Karelia Ships Watson 1.5 and Updated SDK

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Karelia Ships Watson 1.5 and Updated SDK for Groundbreaking Desktop Web
Application for Mac OS X.

Alameda, CA, USA, March 27, 2002 -- Karelia Software today announced the
release of Watson 1.5, a significant upgrade to its pioneering desktop
interface to the most popular web content and services. Along with the
updated application, the company released the open architecture SDK to
enable third-party developers to build plug-ins for the Mac OS X
application. The update features additional utility functions and support
for parsing XML-based services.

"The Watson developer community has started to build some great
applications that fit into the Watson vision of an elegant, time-saving
interface to the Web," said Dan Wood, Karelia President and Watson creator.
"This new release now enables developers to access XML services and easily
manipulate them as Cocoa objects, and adds more

New features in the Watson 1.5 SDK:

* Tools have a new extension and file type. In your project,
WRAPPER_EXTENSION = WatsonTool, type = WATt, signature = WATs
* More NSString functions for searching between delimeters
* Post of a block of data (not a dictionary) is possible via
LOAD_OPTION_POSTSTRING option
* Parsing Dictionaries can convert an element to an NSDate or NSNumber
* Additional key for a tool, ToolUsesMoreButton is true if the green "More
Results" button is used by the tool.
* Tools no longer use ToolInstructionsFile, but can be called
"instructions.html" (or .rtfd or .rtf)
* In a parsing dictionary, format = XML means that a parsing dictionary is
used to convert an XML structure into Cocoa classes
* Change of nomenclature: "scanning dictionary" now universally changed to
"parsing dictionary" for consistency.
* Tools now have access to other UI features via the WToolbox, such as the
status text and the progress indicator.
* A number of additional classes and categories for the UI.

Watson is downloadable as a fully functional, expiring demo. A single-user
license costs $29 (US) and can be purchased via Kagi.com. Watson requires
Mac OS X v10.1 or higher. A full-time Internet connection is recommended.
