HELIOS LanTest New Version

HELIOS LanTest Supports Mac OS X Intel and 10 Gigabit Ethernet Networks

Popular free HELIOS network performance utilities LanTest and File System
Test now support Mac Intel.

Hannover, Germany (PRWEB) July 21, 2006 -- HELIOS Software GmbH, a leading
provider of enterprise and prepress server solutions, announced that HELIOS
LanTest and HELIOS File System Test-- the company's popular, no-cost, Mac
network performance and compatibility testing programs-- now support the
new Mac Intel computers and 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks.

HELIOS LanTest and HELIOS File System Test are Mac Universal Binary
applications and therefore work natively on Mac PPC and Mac Intel
computers. The new HELIOS LanTest version has built-in testing
configurations for Ethernet/DSL, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and 10
Gigabit Ethernet. It vigorously tests a local network's throughput and
performance, as it rapidly:

- creates, opens and deletes files
- performs read/write throughput tests
- checks file locking performance
- examines print and spooling performance
- tests single- and multi-user server connections

"HELIOS LanTest is widely accepted as a standard testing, diagnostic and
benchmarking tool throughout the networking industry," explained Helmut
Tschemernjak, president of HELIOS Software GmbH. "HELIOS LanTest helps
users determine network server volume and local disk performance and
reliability."

"HELIOS LanTest is used by many vendors and enterprise users for network
throughput testing," added Tom Hallinan, HELIOS Strategic Partner Manager.
"The success of HELIOS LanTest is due to its easy setup and usage, which
can be done in seconds by any user."

HELIOS File System Test lets every Mac user verify, in a quick and reliable
way, whether the utilized file server is in all respects compatible with
Mac OS X. The HELIOS File System Test suite includes 11 different tests and
is suited to examine the following Mac OS X network connections:

- Apple Filing Protocol (AFP)
- Windows SMB Protocol (SMB/CIFS)
- Network File System (NFS)
- iDisk HTTP-based Protocol (WebDAV)

"Among other things, the program checks the support of file sizes exceeding
4 GB, long file names, UTF-8 compatibility, correct file access rights, as
well as the consistent use of file/directory IDs," explained Thomas Kaiser,
noted networking authority. "If a server fails the examination, HELIOS File
System Test will issue a detailed error log message."
