Power On Updates Defense Against the Bump and Run

DiskLock Offers Best Data Protection Solution for Macintosh Computers

Columbus, Ohio - April 30, 2001 - Power On Software, Inc. today announced
that it has released an update to the number one ranked, best-selling
security software for the Macintosh. DiskLock (formerly Norton DiskLock)
was acquired by Power On Software, Inc. from Symantec Corporation. DiskLock
provides top-notch security, while offering extraordinary ease of use. The
new release updates DiskLock to add support for additional Macintosh
hardware, including the newest Apple iMac units, desktop machines, and
Titanium PowerBook. DiskLock 4.6.5 supports Macintosh operating systems
from version 7.0 through 9.1. The new release is available now on the Power
On Software web site and is free to all registered users of DiskLock 4.5 or
later. Upgrades for owners of earlier versions are $49.95.

Laptop Theft Increasing

"The theft of laptop computers containing valuable data has become an
increasingly worrisome trend," observed John Wallace, President of Power On
Software. "Thieves are constantly honing their skills and developing new
scams, including the bump and run, which has been very successful in
airports", he added. The scam works this way: The thieves position
themselves in front of the unsuspecting passenger. They stall until the
passenger puts the laptop computer on the conveyor belt. Then the first
subject moves through the metal detector easily. The accomplice then sets
off the detector and slowly begins emptying pockets, removing coins, pens,
jewelry, etc. While this is happening, the first subject takes the laptop
as soon as it appears on the conveyor belt and disappears. When the
passenger finally gets through the metal detector, the laptop is gone.
"Although everyone recognizes the value of the hardware, it is often the
data that is far more valuable, and this makes DiskLock an indispensable
crime-fighter," added Mr. Wallace.

DiskLock Encryption Technology Most Secure

Unlike the limited protection built into the Mac OS, DiskLock affords the
highest level of security. Rather than a mere password that can be easily
defeated, DiskLock uses encryption technology that can instantly lock data
to protect it from prying eyes. In contrast with other solutions, which can
be easily circumvented, DiskLock can withstand even sophisticated efforts
to unlock the secrets on users' hard drives.

DiskLock Supports Multiple Users and Centralized Administration

DiskLock allows multiple users to work on the same machine with total
security for each user's sensitive data. Unlimited numbers of users, each
with different levels of access, provides even greater flexibility. An
administrator package that includes unique tools for centralized
configuration and updating of Norton DiskLock on workstations connected to
a network is also available.

Setting up DiskLock is much easier and faster than with other security
programs. Instead of having to select each file, users can choose entire
folders with a single click. And DiskLock is virtually impossible to
bypass--it loads before the system software, so unauthorized users cannot
start up the system, even from a floppy disk, CD, or other external device.
File-protection settings prevent accidental or malicious deletion of data.
Encryption and decryption is as easy as dragging and dropping the file or
folder.

If instantaneous protection of data is required, DiskLock offers hot key
screen-locking that lets users immediately blank the screen from within any
application, so there is no need to worry about anyone even getting a
glimpse of sensitive data. Idle time screen protection automatically blanks
the screen and locks the system after a specified amount of time for
unattended security and privacy, without interfering with ongoing tasks
such as fax processing or printing. DiskLock will even log any efforts to
access sensitive data so that attempted breaches of security can be
monitored.

DiskLock is available for download from the Power On Software Web site at:

In addition, DiskLock is distributed by Ingram Micro and is available from
