Digital Juke 1.0.1 Beta

Digital Juke 1.0.1 Beta

Golden Micro Solutions Ltd Announces Digital Juke 1.0.1 beta

Digital Juke is an MP3 music file player, but one with a very specific
purpose -- to act as a jukebox when you're throwing a party.

There are many other Macintosh MP3 players available which may be more
suited as a personal MP3 player. If what you're looking for is a player for
your own (background) use, then you should probably consider using one of
those other applications.

However, if you like to throw parties, but have been concerned about using
your Macintosh as a jukebox to play MP3 files (because of the risks imposed
by having numerous people using your computer to select tracks in a relaxed
atmosphere), then Digital Juke will hopefully provide the answer.

What Does Digital Juke Do That Other Players Dont?

Digital Juke has a number of functions not available in other mp3 players:

* Export available track lists to a text file, for extra processing before
printing.

* Can be used in 'full screen' mode, with the menu bar hidden so that
casual users cannot access the rest of your computer.

* Can be used entirely with mouse alone, or with keyboard alone, if you
want to set up a 'jukebox' with either of those input devices missing.

* Allows you to select any number of tracks from the playlist to be played
in sequence, and then can revert to random play if no other tracks are
'queued'.

* If the Apple MacInTalk speech synthesis software is installed, can speak
the track name (and ID3 tags) after the song has played.

* Will allow you to create and use playlists which include tracks on
volumes not currently loaded. If attempting to play these tracks (by
selection or randomly) Digital Juke will just ignore them. If you want to
mount the appropriate volume, you can obtain the full pathname to the track.

Pricing and Licensing Information

This initial beta version if free, for the moment, but will expire in
September 2000. If enough people indicate to us that they find Digital Juke
useful, we will look at improving the system and releasing it commercially.

Please provide us with as much feedback as possible. That will indicate
whether we should continue the development of Digital Juke or not.

System Requirements

Digital Juke will run on most PowerPC-based Macintosh computers. It
requires at least 2500K of free RAM, and a minimum of System 7.1, and
QuickTime 4.x

Because the MP3 playing engine used within Digital Juke is the QuickTime
4.x engine, if you do not have QuickTime 4.0 or later installed, you will
not be able to make use of Digital Juke.
