Desktop Transporter 2.0.1

Desktop Transporter 2.0.1

Coeur d'Alene (Idaho, USA), December 14, 2006 --=20
DEVONtechnologies, LLC releases a maintenance=20
update for the remote desktop solution Desktop=20
Transporter.

The new version 2.0.1 adds a Status tab which=20
lists the local Mac's IP addresses as well as the=20
port which Desktop Transporter is currently=20
listening on. This makes sharing a Mac's desktop=20
as well as solving networking issues easier.=20
Also, version 2.0.1 allows the controlling Mac to=20
change the color depth used for the connection,=20
and it lets the user customize the port for=20
incoming connections. For maximum security, e.g,=20
when used with SSH, incoming connections can be=20
restricted to 'localhost.'

=46or those who want to use Desktop Transporter to=20
control a remote Mac over the Internet, the=20
online help has been enhanced with more=20
information on how to set up port forwarding and=20
with a link to the convenient network utility=20
Lighthouse from Codelaide Software that helps=20
with complex router configuration. Finally,=20
Desktop Transporter 2.0.1 fixes a number of minor=20
bugs and improves compatibility with Mac OS X=20
10.3.9.

DEVONtechnologies took over distribution of=20
Desktop Transporter in November 2006 with the=20
release of version 2.0. Daniel St=F8dle, Desktop=20
Transporter's developer, is very satisfied: "I am=20
very happy with our distribution agreement. After=20
releasing version 2.0 a month ago, we have sold=20
more than three times as many licenses as I=20
previously had over the course of two years. The=20
user feedback has been great, too. We have=20
received lots of valuable feedback, and I'm=20
working hard on incorporating many of them for=20
the next major release." Eric Boehnisch-Volkmann,=20
DEVONtechnologies' President, agrees: "Desktop=20
Transporter is the perfect addition to our=20
product line. Enhancing productivity has always=20
been our top goal, and Desktop Transporter is an=20
elegant way to enable our users to work with=20
multiple Macs, even remotely over the Internet."

Desktop Transporter 2.0.1 requires Mac OS X=20
10.3.9 later and a fast LAN and/or Internet=20
connection is strongly recommended. It is=20
immediately available as a free download from=20
www.devon-technologies.com. It must be purchased=20
after the evaluation period of four weeks is=20
over; the update is free for all registered=20
users. Desktop Transporter sells for US$ 29.95 in=20
DEVONtechnologies' online shop. Students and=20
educators discounts are available.

ABOUT DESKTOP TRANSPORTER

Desktop Transporter is a remote desktop solution=20
that allows users to use other Macs on either the=20
local network or the Internet without physically=20
accessing them. Like the much more expensive=20
Apple Remote Desktop, Desktop Transporter shows=20
the screen of the remote Mac either in a window=20
or in full screen and allows the user to interact=20
with the other computer as if it was the local=20
one.

A menu extra makes it possible to access remote=20
Macs without launching the main Desktop=20
Transporter application, while a background=20
helper application takes care of sharing desktops=20
even when the menu extra and main application are=20
not running. Using Bonjour, the presence of a=20
shared Mac on the local network is made known,=20
making it unnecessary to pass IP addresses=20
around. In addition, Desktop Transporter=20
'survives' Fast User Switching. A shared desktop=20
remains shared even if the user switches to=20
another user account.

Other features of Desktop Transporter, which is=20
optimized for both Intel and PowerPC bases Macs,=20
include: Clipboard synchronization for text and=20
graphics in both directions, hardware=20
acceleration, and support for non-English=20
keyboards. The latter is one of the main=20
drawbacks of free solutions such as VNC when used=20
outside English-speaking countries.

Desktop Transporter was developed by Norwegian=20
Mac developer Daniel St=F8dle and it is distributed=20
by DEVONtechnologies, LLC. All rights on Desktop=20
Transporter remain with Daniel St=F8dle.
