Big Nerd Ranch announces Mixed Networks Bootcamp December 12-16, 2005

Atlanta, GA - September 16, 2005 - Big Nerd Ranch Announces New Mixed
Networks Bootcamp, December 12-16, 2005

Big Nerd Ranch, Inc, continues to set an industry standard in training
courses for system administrators and developers with its announcement of
the new Mixed Networks Bootcamp, December 12-16, 2005. This new course
provides network administrators with the skills necessary to master
networked environments that incorporate systems across a number of
platforms. In many cases, system administrators have extensive backgrounds
in a single OS, but, when presented with the challenge of integrating other
operating systems or even migrating to a new system, are then left with the
challenge of quickly learning a new set of protocols on-the-fly. In
real-world networks, Mac and Unix users are often forced to deal with
Windows, but don't know how. Conversely, many Windows administrators want
to foray into Mac and Unix administration, but need the necessary guidance
on where to start. Big Nerd Ranch, Inc., in collaboration with experienced
network administrator and instructor Nate Osborne, has created a new
bootcamp that tackles this challenge and presents one of the most
innovative and exciting new classes in the industry. The class syllabus
covers a number of critical subject areas integral to creating a neatly
integrated cross-platform network:

* File sharing protocols for Mac, Unix and Windows using SMB/CIFS, WebDAV,
and Bonjour

* Printer sharing for multiple operating systems

* SSH Tunneling, GUI and Text-based logins

* VPN clients and servers across platforms

* Database access via ODBC for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL

* Connecting to Exchange via Unix and Mac and spam filtering

* System monitoring and logging

* Data Backups and file and password recovery

Nate Osborne, Mixed Networks Bootcamp instructor, said of the class,
"Managing this type of mixed network can be a nightmare for system
administrators. With that in mind, this class was specifically created to
target system administrators frustrated with the difficulties in managing a
mixed environment. This class is ideal for organizations considering adding
another OS to their environment or wanting to leverage the advantages of
another OS; possibly as the start of migration to a new platform. Mastering
this type of scenario can dramatically increase productivity, reduce the
transition time and minimize total costs to the organization."

"Creating this tightly integrated fabric of interwoven systems can
virtually eliminate potential portals of security intrusion and expand your
organization's ability to communicate, share information easily and
facilitate worry-free file and content sharing within the organization," he
continued.

Nate Osborne is a systems administrator and consultant with over eight
years in the technology industry. He has supported and managed the
logistics of a range of systems from financial analytics to the cutting
edge world of e-commerce. His background includes VOIP and PBX phone
systems, VPNs, firewalls and remote user security projects. In his personal
life, Nate has translated his passion for cross- platform technology into
his interactive home automation of appliances, electrical usage and
applications.
