Toshiba launches 2.5-inch SAS HDD

Toshiba Storage Device Devision (http://www.toshibastorage.com) has launched the MBF2xxLRC, a 2.5-inch enterprise HDD mounted in a 3.5-inch bracket. It will ship in July to original equipment manufacturers and distributors.

The MBF2xxLRC is available with capacity points of 300GB, 450GB, and 600GB -- equal to the highest capacity point currently available within the entire 2.5 and 3.5-inch form factor enterprise-class segments. It touts 10,025 RPM spin speed and a 6Gb/s SAS interface.

By incorporating the MBF series 2.5-inch drive in a 3.5-inch bracket, the MBF2xxLRC delivers all the benefits of small form factor technology versus 3.5-inch HDDs including 70% less power at idle and approximately one-half the active power, says Joel Hagberg, vice president of enterprise marketing at Toshiba Storage Device Division.
