DEVONthink products beef up email features, more

DEVONtechnologies (http://www.devon-technologies.com) has updated its DEVONthink info manager line to version 2.0.3 in both the Professional and Professional Office editions. Users can finally drag multiple email messages from Apple Mail directly to their database.

This integrates DEVONthink with Apple's Mail application in Mac-like fashion. Users can now also "print" any document to PDF even from within DEVONthink Pro, e.g. to save web pages in a future-proof format. The previously, less prominently placed, folder action scripts can be installed with a single click through the Install Add-Ons dialog and be used instantly. Folder actions turn any folder in the file system into a "hot folder." Files dropped into a hot folder, or placed into them from another application, e.g. a networked scanner or FTP workflow, are automatically picked up by DEVONthink Pro and added to a database.

With folder actions our user can now even easier integrate DEVONthink into their workflows. A new advanced search setting in DEVONthink Personal 2.0.3 and up allows users to enter smart-group-like search criteria in the search window. Branches in search queries allow to create much more complex smart groups and searches. All three editions also store thumbnails for bookmarks, too, further removing the distinction between locally stored documents and online resources. Groups can be merged, and merging documents retains the tags of all merged documents. Tag selections in the Tags view can be saved as a smart group and smart tagging has received a number of other enhancements.

All editions of DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.0 are now also already prepared for the upcoming version 2.5 of DEVONagent, add preferences for Mac OS X 10.6's data detectors and smart copy/paste, and remember the last selection of text views, page of PDF views, and play time of QuickTime views — a long-time request of the user community.

DEVONthink Professional and Professional Office require Mac OS X 10.5 or later. DEVONthink Professional Office sells for $149.95, DEVONthink Professional for $79.95, DEVONthink Personal for $49.95, and DEVONnote for $24.95. DEVONthink Pro Office and DEVONthink Pro are also available with the Internet research agent DEVONagent as bundles.

Users who purchased DEVONthink Personal, Pro, Pro Office or DEVONnote 1.x on or after July 1, 2008, are eligible for free upgrades. Users who have purchased before the grace period are eligible for attractive upgrade prices. In addition, users of DEVONnote now can upgrade to DEVONthink for the price difference.
