| TMPGEnc 2.524 While DVD burning is all the rage, there's still a time and place for creating video CDs, and TMPGEnc is the ideal tool for the first part of that process. TMPEnc is the best freeware MPEG1 encoding tool available. It allows you to open AVI files or VOB files from DVD-Video discs, and convert them to MPEG1 format in just about any resolution. And to make this process easier, templates are available, such those that encode for non-standard video discs, such as KVCDs. Darren Yates often covers TMPEnc in his regular Ripping & Burning tutorials; here's just one of the cool things that he has done with TMPEnc in the past.
