Eidos has developed a powerful and flexible software package for editing the Eidos movies created on an Eagle card (only Eidos compressed movies can be imported for editing, but they can be saved out in either Acorn Replay moving lines or Eidos format).

Eidoscope includes many of the video editing tools developed for Eidos's professional software package, which costs some £3500. For example; video can be inserted or cut at any point, shots can be re-ordered using cut and paste, shots can be pulled from the source file to compile a rough first cut, video and audio tracks can be automatically synchronised (and two audio tracks can be edited or mixed simultaneously), complex mixes and wipes can be created.

Eidoscope supports Acorn Replay, the standard Acorn movie format. This means that an edited (Eidos) movie can be exported for use with many other Acorn applications - for example Replay files are fully compatible with packages used for titling, importing sprite animations and exporting single frames for use in story boards.

The editing interface has been designed to be simple to use - for instance using drag and drop between play and record windows, context sensitive mouse operation and multiple shuttle speeds. And all edits, including complex effects such as mixes and wipes, are rendered in real time.
