Serial Hardware Connectivity Troubleshooting

POSSIBLE PROBLEMS
You have one or more of the following serial connectivity problems. TROUBLESHOOTING RESOLUTION
  1. Eliminate physical problems.
    1. Check for loose connections (external modems only).
    2. Cycle power on your modem (external modems only).
    3. Use a different phone line.

  2. Eliminate software problems.
    1. Make sure that you are using the right PORT and INTERRUPT in NET.CFG. The following section lists the normal (though not exhaustive) list of DOS COMx: ports, hardware interrupts, and I/O ports typically associated with serial devices, such as modems.
      • COM1: -- INT 4 -- PORT 3F8
      • COM2: -- INT 3 -- PORT 2F8
      • COM3: -- INT 4 -- PORT 3E8
      • COM4: -- INT 3 -- PORT 2E8
    2. Watch NESL, NCOMX, and NWREMOTE load; the diagnostic messages displayed by the drivers are informative.
    3. If you are using a serial mouse, make sure that you are using different COMx: ports, interrupts, and I/O ports.
    4. Test your modem connection with another modem package. If the other modem package works, use the diagnostic tool SLPMON (Modem Monitor) to identify driver configuration problems.
