Diagnostic Tools

• Modem Monitor (\NET\BIN\SLPMON.EXE) -- Use the Modem Monitor in the following ways:
  • Enable / Load the Modem Monitor (SLPMON).
    1. Edit \WINDOWS\LWP.INI and add the section (if necessary):

       [SLPMON]
       Visible=TRUE

    2. Using File Manager, double-click on \NET\BIN\SLPMON.EXE. (This step is only necessary if you do not want to restart Windows.)
    3. Restore SLPMON to a normal window (it may start as an icon).
    4. Examine the LSL, NCOMX, NWREMOTE, SLIP/PPP and TCP/IP configurations, settings and statistics. Look for errors that indicate problems.
  • Watch the modem initialization (OPTIONS | TRACE MODEM INIT).
  • Check the current configuration for LSL, NCOMX, and NWREMOTE.
  • Check the current settings for LSL, NCOMX, and NWREMOTE.
  • Check the current statistics for LSL, NCOMX, and NWREMOTE.

• LWPCON.EXE -- Use LWPCON in the following ways:
  • Determine what TCP connections you currently have established (LOCAL WORKSTATION | TABLES | TCP CONNECTION TABLE).
  • Remove unwanted TCP connections (LOCAL WORKSTATION | TABLES | TCP CONNECTION TABLE | delete key).

• PING.EXE or IP Resolver
  • Use either of these programs to determine if your TCP/IP protocol stack is up, functioning, and that your workstation has network connectivity.
