TROUBLESHOOTING RESOLUTION
RECOMMENDATION
Use one or more of the following tools to isolate problems with your LAN or Serial connections.
- Modem Monitor (\NET\BIN\SLPMON.EXE) -- Use the Modem Monitor in the following ways:
- Enable / Load the Modem Monitor (SLPMON).
- Edit \WINDOWS\LWP.INI and add the section (if necessary):
[SLPMON]
Visible=TRUE
- Using File Manager, double-click on \NET\BIN\SLPMON.EXE. (This step is only necessary if you do not want to restart Windows.)
- Restore SLPMON to a normal window (it may start as an icon).
- Examine the LSL, NCOMX, NWREMOTE, SLIP/PPP and TCP/IP configurations, settings and statistics. Look for errors that indicate problems.
- Watch the modem initialization (OPTIONS | TRACE MODEM INIT).
- Check the current configuration for LSL, NCOMX, and NWREMOTE.
- Check the current settings for LSL, NCOMX, and NWREMOTE.
- Check the current statistics for LSL, NCOMX, and NWREMOTE.
- LWPCON.EXE -- Use LWPCON in the following ways:
- Determine what TCP connections you currently have established (LOCAL WORKSTATION | TABLES | TCP CONNECTION TABLE).
- Remove unwanted TCP connections (LOCAL WORKSTATION | TABLES | TCP CONNECTION TABLE | delete key).
- PING.EXE or IP Resolver
- Use either of these programs to determine if your TCP/IP protocol stack is up, functioning, and that your workstation has network connectivity.
