Mailer Connectivity -- Verifying POP3 access.

CURRENT SITUATION
You are investigating whether or not you have the required POP3 service connectivity required by the LAN WorkPlace Mailer.

TROUBLESHOOTING RESOLUTION

  1. Ping your POP3 server. If the ping fails, your POP3 server may be down, or you may have TCP/IP protocol stack problems.
  2. Telnet into your POP3 server to make sure that your POP3 service is functioning correctly.
    1. Launch Host Presenter.
    2. Cancel the Open Session dialog.
    3. Select the Setup... menu.
    4. Enter your POP server's address in the Host text box. (SETUP...)
    5. Select the Enable Line Editing checkbox. (TRANSPORTS | EDIT TRANSPORT PARAMETERS)
    6. Set the Host Port to 110. (TRANSPORTS | EDIT TRANSPORT PARAMETERS)
    7. Click OK to close the Telnet Options.
    8. Click OK to connect to your POP server.
    9. Type: USER user-name
    10. Type: PASS your-password
    11. Type: LIST to determine if you have any pending mail.
    12. Type: QUIT to close the connection with your POP3 server.
    13. Exit Host Presenter.
    14. If you notice any error messages, you have problems with your mail account. Contact your mail administrator for further assistance. Otherwise you have what appears to be a fully functional POP3 configuration.
