Mailer Connectivity -- Verifying POP3 access.
CURRENT SITUATION
You are investigating whether or not you have the required POP3 service connectivity required by the LAN WorkPlace Mailer.
TROUBLESHOOTING RESOLUTION
- Ping your POP3 server. If the ping fails, your POP3 server may be down, or you may have TCP/IP protocol stack problems.
- Telnet into your POP3 server to make sure that your POP3 service is functioning correctly.
- Launch Host Presenter.
- Cancel the Open Session dialog.
- Select the Setup... menu.
- Enter your POP server's address in the Host text box. (SETUP...)
- Select the Enable Line Editing checkbox. (TRANSPORTS | EDIT TRANSPORT PARAMETERS)
- Set the Host Port to 110. (TRANSPORTS | EDIT TRANSPORT PARAMETERS)
- Click OK to close the Telnet Options.
- Click OK to connect to your POP server.
- Type: USER user-name
- Type: PASS your-password
- Type: LIST to determine if you have any pending mail.
- Type: QUIT to close the connection with your POP3 server.
- Exit Host Presenter.
- If you notice any error messages, you have problems with your mail account. Contact your mail administrator for further assistance. Otherwise you have what appears to be a fully functional POP3 configuration.
