Possible TCP/IP problem -- PING hostname fails.
CURRENT SITUATION
- Your Domain Name Service (DNS) is not available or functioning. This is the service that translates human readable mneumonic host names (FTP.NOVELL.COM) into machine readable numeric IP addresses (137.65.1.3).
POSSIBLE CAUSES
- If you have DNS, your \NET\TCP\RESOLV.CFG file
- does not exist; or
- points to a non-existent DNS server; or
- points to a DNS server that is down.
- Your \NET\TCP\HOSTS file does not have an hostname / IP address translation for the given host.
USER ACTION
- If you have DNS:
- You must enable DNS in the LAN WorkPlace Config programs.
- You must know you DNS server numeric IP address.
- You must know your domain name. e.g. some_site.company.com
- If you do not have DNS:
- You must provide entries for the HOSTS file using the LAN WorkPlace Config programs.
