     Ancestor+

The RISC OS genealogy program

The latest version of Ancestor+ is now available. This is version 2.13 and has various improvements. If you downloaded the recent version 2.10beta you should now upgrade to the new version as there have been several bug fixes. See the later section Files to download

Version 2 of Ancestor+.

This is a major upgrade, released just over a year ago. As well as other improvements it includes a scrolling view of all or part of the tree which can be saved as a Drawfile. Unlike other programs, this 'view' is not fixed, but individuals can be dragged about and interchanged so you can, for example, alter the order of children or spouses and the links will automatically be redrawn. As with earlier versions of Ancestor+, this tree (or the entire database) can be exported as a cross-linked HTML file or GEDCOM to make it easy to exchange information with other family members.

Ancestor+ is now distributed on CD and there is a completely new printed manual. As Version 2 is a major upgrade, for the first time since Ancestor+ appeared there will be a charge of £20 including VAT if you have any version of Ancestor+ before version 2 and you must return your original program disc with your order.

Ancestor+ will continue to be developed and improved and once you have paid this upgrade fee further updates will be available free from here as before.

If you are a registered user of Ancestor+ and download the latest version from here your will find that it will still work with your old Register file but some of the new features will be disabled. However, this is only a temporary measure, and at some time this facility will be withdrawn and new versions will not operate with the original Register file.

About Ancestor+

At the time of his death Graham Crow was working on a program that was to have been called Ancestry+. It was thought to be nearly finished, but this proved not to be the case. The version now available is a new program, with lots of additional features like GEDCOM import and export, export data as cross-referenced HTML file, export sub-files, merge files, much greater ease of use and flexibility, and many other things.

Ancestor+

Just as we were getting it all finished those nice people at Minerva announced that they felt they owned all the rights to the word 'Ancestry' and would sue if it was released with that name, even though they are no longer interested in Acorn computers and have failed to support users of Ancestry II or fix problems experienced with that program. So, what was to have been called Ancestry+ is now Ancestor+ instead.

Ancestor+ has been designed to be very simple to use, even by people who are not computer experts. It's incredibly easy to enter data and link people into 'families'. Because of the way it can store and index huge amounts of 'external' data of almost any type it is ideal for people who want to compile complete family histories rather than just genealogical data.

As the main database is held in memory it not held back by slow drive access, so you can use it on any machine from a 1 Mb A3000 upward. A hard disc is not essential but is recommended if you intend to store more than a minimal amount of data about each person. The database can hold records for 20,000 individuals

Ancestor+ Can create HTML trees with separate x-referenced files for each Person and Family which makes it much easier for people who want to put data on their web sites. You can incorporate pictures into the HTML files, converting them to JPEG for portability if required.

Price is just £59 including VAT and UK carriage

Note that the earlier discounts for users of Ancestry 1 and 2 has now been discontinued

Files available to download

  Ancestor+ Program.
The actual Ancestor+ application. If you're not a Registered User it will revert to the limited Demo version. Registered users can download this archive and use their Register file to de-restrict it.
Note that although the program is restricted if you're not a registered user it is not crippled. Everything works!. It is just limited to the number of People and Families the database will hold.
If you are a Registered User before Version 2.00 and have not upgraded to Version 2 then this version will still work with your old registration file. However, some of the new features introduced with version 2 will not be accessible to you.
To reduce the size of the download for people who just want to update their program no Manual or Example files are included in this archive, just the Updates list. You will have to download these separately.
