'C', a Dabhand Guide, Version 3By Mark Burgess and originally published by Dabs press at £16.95. Even at that price it's worth every penny. Over 700 pages, takes you through an entire programming course in C. Starts with basics but covers some more advanced topics. You don't need previous programming experience to be able to understand it. Written with Acorn machines in mind but not Acorn specific so lessons can be applied to other platforms. There are always books to help you use Computer Concepts programs because the manuals are a bit difficult to get to grips with. This little book will explain a lot of the features in a logical and concise manner that anyone can understand. Impression, A Dabhand GuideBy Anne Rooney and intended to overcome the steep learning curve most people face when they get Impression and have only those cryptic manuals. Graphics on the ARMBy Roger Amos, a general overview of graphics on Acorn machines. Starts at the beginning, explaining how it works, and even if you're not interested in the nuts and bolts this will help you get the best out of software. Covers many popular graphics programs (including !Paint and !Draw) and goes on to simple programming techniques. Will be of interest to anyone who either uses graphics software or is interested in programming. Cover price £14.95 APDL price is just £6.90 including UK post. Budget DTPBy Roger Amos. You might think that to produce good looking documents or notices you need expensive software, but you already have free tools which can do a lot, !Draw and !Paint. These aren't very well explained in the User Guide, and advanced features are barely touched upon. OK, no-one's pretending they can replace a package costing hundreds of pounds, but it's amazing what you can do with the software Acorn provided for nothing. Cover price £12.95 APDL price is just £3 including UK post. 1st Word PlusAlthough it's obsolete now 1WP was once the 'standard' wp for Acorn machines. If you've got an old machine and a dot matrix printer it's still a very useful package, and because it doesn't use outline fonts it's much faster and easier to use on older machines than modern programs. Secondhand copies are always turning up for a couple of pounds on bring-and-buy stands at Acorn shows, and this book by Anne Rooney is a very good guide and could be essential if you've managed to get hold of a copy without the manual.
