What are the Sailor Wars?
Not much is revealed in the series about the nature of the so-called Sailor wars, except for some
clues from Princess Kakyuu and Galaxia herself. In episode 194 The Princess explained briefly that,
"there has been a holy war going on for along time throughout the galaxy". As I understand it, this
is not a war between different groups of Sailor Senshi but between Good and Evil. The Sailor Senshi
represent the forces of Good in this case. There is also an implication here that there are many
Sailor Senshi in the universe, and those that served the evil Galaxia, (Sailor Iron Mouse, Sailor
Aluminium Siren etc.) were once good senshi who "sold
out" to Galaxia to hold on to the slave-bracelets that kept them alive after their star seeds had
been taken. The price is that once they put on Galaxia's special bracelets, they are completely
under her control. Uranus and Neptune were a strange exception, as after they betrayed Galaxia,
(alas, all in vain,) she did mention that she has never met any senshi like them before, that were
able to resist the control of her bracelets.
The source of ultimate evil in the galaxy was eventually traced to Chaos. It was also discovered
that in order to defeat this great evil, the legendary and strongest Sailor Senshi sealed the Chaos
somewhere where it would could not escape. It was revealed near the end of the series that this
legendary senshi is Galaxia, and that she sealed Chaos within her body, thus becoming consumed by it
from the inside out. Early on, knowing that she has made a mistake, and realizing that she was about
to be completely taken over, Galaxia released her starseed to find the Light of Hope to defeat her.
The star seed turned out to be ChibiChibi and the Light of Hope is, of course, SailorMoon.
In episode 200, ChibiChibi explains that she is "the glitter that used to be in Galaxia's star, the
Light of Hope." So who is the Light of Hope? -- Usagi? or ChibiChibi? -- It seems that both are,
because, as Usagi explains, "The light of hope is in everyone's hearts." ( a remarkable thing as
explanations aren't really her bag! ^_-). This was also repeated by the Sailor Star
Lights later on.
Where to buy Sailor Stars videos
I get asked this a lot by U.S. residents, please note I don't live in the USA, but here are some links
where you may be able to buy SailorStars and other Japanese episodes:
Acknowledgement
- Fistly, a special thank you to Naoko Takeuchi (that's her pic on the left) for creating such a beautiful series with characters we have come to know and love as if
they were really parts of our lives (Rei-chan especially ^_-).
- While I avoid copying from Hitoshi Doi's Bishoujo Senshi site piece meal, it's inevitable that most of the information in this page is based on his work, at the time of writing I have seen almost the
entire series (except for the last two episodes), but as I explained elsewhere, in Japanese with no dubbing or subtitles. Therefore most of what I saw would not have made much sense without referring to
Doi's reference page. So, my thanks again to Hitoshi Doi.
- Another page I am in debted to here is the Everchanging Sailormoon Gateway by Janelle, for her own excellent synopsis of episode 200, which is
more elaborate than the Doi's version.
- Special thanks to Lunar Dragon for working tirelessly behind the scene
to help me edit out typos and grammatical errors, if you see any of those they are probably stuff I added in later or
something I neglected to change! LD also sent me many nice Sailor Starlights pix, some of which I have used here.
- My thanks also to Mara, Pluto Planet Power, for helping me edit the synopsis page and also for pointing out some factual inaccuracies.
- Thank you as always to the lovely Janice for the transparent GIFs which I have modified to make JPG backgrounds and other in-line graphics.
- Thank you to Sailor Grub for her help to promote this page, check out her Sailor Stars
manga info & pix page!
- Thank you to the lovely and generous Rurubell for letting me have so many rare Sailor Stars pix!
- Thank you to Tom Cheng for many cool Galaxia pictures, and invaluable info, check out his
Legend of Sailor Galaxia page today!
- Thanks to Sailor Moon & Sailor Stars Screen Shots for the episode 200
screen shots I have used here.
Feedback
Here are some of my friends' comments about the series:
- Ruk (Sky Senshi)
Don't forget to add the same tango music that Mamoru and Usagi had in the first season that they used on the last
season with Seiya. And also, not much of the Outer Senshi on the season.
At least less Chibi-Usa.
- Jov (Thunder Senshi)
I've noticed you didn't say much about Yaten. I know, he has a MAJOR EGO but he's also CUTE!
- Psyber (the original Sailor Mars Shrine)
The first 6 episodes of the series, featuring the "conclusion" of the battle
against Nephrenia and all 10 senshi fighting on the same side for what is
really the first time (the end of S doesn't really count), may be the high
point of the whole run, especially eps 170 and 171 where the Inners and
Outers team up in different combinations to fight Nephrenia's minions. The
rest of the series, featuring the 3 Transvestlites, is OK, what I've seen of
it kinda reminds me of a (slightly) more mature version of the first season,
with some really good eps and some pretty lame filler ones. The Animamates,
especially Aluminum Siren and Lead Crow, are interesting villains, and
ChibiChibi is so ridiculous she's impossible not to like.
- TC (Sailor Saturn Homepage)
Sailor Stars is definitely by far the best and most interesting season of Sailor
Moon. The Starlights are a very important part of the season, and in my opinion they
have some of the coolest transformations and attacks. The fact that they change into
women when they transform adds even more spice to the whole picture!
Chibi Chibi is also introduced, and there is no way someone can't like Chibi Chibi,
she is simply adorable!
The last 6 episodes of Sailor Stars were extremely intense. I cried a lot when all
the senshi were killed, especially when Michiru and Haruka died holding hands. For
a moment I thought that Galaxia was going to be impossible to defeat, but then of
course, how can she win? she is the bad guy! Sailor Moon must somehow win the battle!
Galaxia's powers were incredibly powerful and the black fuku with wings that she
wears when she transforms is really cool and gloomy. I like this season of Sailor
Moon very much because it's very touching and it has some educational content (teaches
us about friendship and love!). And the senshi are given the coolest attacks, SailorMoon
gets the coolest transformations and powers, and all the senshi fight together!!"
If you spot any factual, grammatical or typographical errors, please inform me.
As I mentioned on the entry page, please visit the excellentSailor Grub's Sailor Stars page for info and pix from the manga version,
see how Naoko's Sailor Stars differ from TOIE's!
