The new characters of Sailor Stars

Seiya Kou / Sailor Star Fighter

Is clearly the main character among the Sailor Star Lights, though not necessarily the leader (he is lead-singer of the Three Lights though!) Seiya felt instant attraction to Usagi the first time he laid eyes on her, and pursued her pretty relentlessly throughout the series (for all the good that did him!) By the later part of Stars he became pretty much obsessed with Usagi, and even intercepted Tin Nyanko's bazooka-blast for her, thereby seriously hurting himself in the process! Seiya appears to be the most sensitive, flirtatious, playful, and emotional of the SailorStarLights. On one occasion he even put on a monster costume in an attempt to scare the girls. He is also obviously the most romantic of the three, his pursuit of Usagi seems to be as important to him as his search for Princess Kakyuu. This has put him in conflict (including a punch up!) with the other two StarLights on several occasions. He is also the most rock star-like in attitude!

Taiki Kou / Sailor Star Maker

Is almost the Ami of the group! Taiki is every bit as bright as Ami-chan, if not more so, however he initially lacked Ami's compassion and sweetness. Though he is not altogether unkind, (he was willing to lend Usagi and Minako his notebook after all) Taiki viewed everything in rather detached academic or logical terms and tended to dismiss any notions of dreams and romance, until he learned the values of these things from Ami, as a friend. Eventually he even learned the value of a good laugh from watching Usagi blow up a TV studio's oven!

Yaten Kou / Sailor Star Healer

Probably the coldest and most insensitive of the Three Lights, Yaten does not care much about how other people feel. Fans just irritate him, he even throws their love letters away without a thought. However, he is quite egotistical and does seem to like being famous and expects everybody to know who he is, (as an idol I mean, not as a Senshi!) Yaten also seems to like Luna just fine and gets along well with her, he even took good care of her when she spent a few days with him -- Perhaps this has something to do with his possessing similarly cat-like eyes. Like the Inner Senshi, the SailorStarLights take care of their own, and Yaten's nasty remarks to Usagi after Seiya injured himself by shielding her from a bazooka-blast (see Seiya's section above,) can be viewed as an indication of how much he cares.

Chibi Chibi

ChibiChibi is not what she seems! She is what remains of the "good" Galaxia all packed up in a excruciatingly cute little bundle. Fortunately, she is not as bratty as Chibi Usa before her, and limits her conversations to the theme of .... "chibi chibi! chibi chibi? chibi chibi chibi chibi!" (so she never loses an argument! ^_-) ChibiChibi has a lot of strange powers hidden in that little frame of course, least of which is the ability to power up Sailor Moon, and then become a magic sword! Still, psycho-analysing her does not seem like a sensible thing to do! ^^;;

Princess Kakyuu (Fireball)

The lost princess of the StarLights, her speech and demeanor is appropriately regal and she is clearly very powerful. She managed to stand up to Galaxia's assault for quite a while until she was finally overcome. Princess Kakyuu also knows a lot about the sailor wars, (ie: Galaxia and Chaos) so she must be very old. Her mission is to find the Light of Hope (which turned out to be Usagi and ChibiChibi!) to defeat Galaxia. She kind of failed at this mission as she did not find the light before the Golden Queen put an end to her. A tragic, gentle and kind figure, you can't help but feel sorry for her!

Sailor Galaxia

The most awesome SM villainess ever! Who else could have broken Sailor Uranus' Space Sword with two fingers? --The Golden Queen Galaxia was the most power Senshi of all time -- and it shows! None of the Senshi could really do much damage to her, although the Sailor Star Lights did manage to hurt her a little after intensive combined assault. Galaxia herself is not evil of course, she made the mistake of trying to rid the universe of Chaos by sealing it inside herself. This lead to her gradually being consumed by its evil from the inside out. Galaxia is a harsh mistress who will not tolerate failure in her underlings. She eventually killed off every single one of of her henchgirls, none of which were actually defeated by the Senshi. Galaxia is super cool! She makes Queen Beryl from the orignial series look like a total plebe! ^_^

Some character development among the Inners and Outers

Usagi / Sailor Moon

By the time we get to the last quarter of this series Usagi has become very melancholy. We no longer see her enjoying her food, bickering with Rei and Minako, and falling about in her typicl klutzy nature. Usagi does two very different types of crying : The silly crying she does when she trips over something or doesn't get what she wants, (when this happens jets of tears shoot from her eyes like fountains.) and then there is the really really tragic crying like when the Inner senshi die or when she found out Mamoru was dead, (tears flow gently down her face and sometimes they spark off strange powers within her.) -- More often than not, this tragic crying will have dire consequences for the forces of evil, because when she cries like that, her resolve tends to strengthen. Still, she generally does not have a good time in series, poor thing! She has clearly grown up a lot though.

Ami / Sailor Mercury

Ami seems to have developed a sense of humor and a more outgoing personality in this series. With her gold Three Lights Fan Club card, and her jumping up and down along with her friends to get a look at the idols she looks adorable. Ami even agreed to put on a silly costume to enter a video game competition! As I said before, you gotta love Ami!

Minako / Sailor Venus

This is a really good series for Minako fans! She gets the spotlight in more episodes than any of her friends (except Usagi of course!). This may be because there is a "showbiz" theme running through most of the series, and nobody loves showbiz more than Minako! Alas, we have seen her idol chasing and entering talent contests before in other series so we do not really learn anything new about her.

Rei / Sailor Mars

Oh dear, we don't see much of poor Rei-chan this series at all! Sure, she is in every episode but she's made kind of part of the furniture... So, we don't really see any significant change in her character as she only gets one not particularly good episode of her own. If you are a Rei fan please go to my Sailor Mars Zone to console yourselves now!

Makoto / Sailor Jupiter

Like Rei-chan poor Makoto doesn't get to do much in the main arc of the series, she is as kind, sweet, and strong as ever. She did get into a fight with Yaten trying to protect Chibi Chibi, she didn't do very well as Yaten proved too fast for her.

Haruka & Michiru / Sailor Uranus & Sailor Neptune

I have to lump these two together here as they did everything together in this series, (except the bit when Michiru played violin with the Three Lights on stage.) Michiru seems to be more relaxed here than she was in "S," she laughed good naturedly quite a few times (she has a really elegant laugh.) The communication between Haruka and Michiru truly borders on telepathy! The episode where both Uranus and Neptune agreed to become Galaxia's slaves is highly remarkable. (They even killed Pluto and Saturn to achive a greater end goal!) On the face of it, that seems a very cruel way of attaining their goal, but the point was to earn Galaxia's trust. That way they could turn the powerful slave bracelets on her since their normal senshi powers weren't doing the job. Besides, it makes sense when you consider that Pluto and Saturn would have been killed by Galaxia anyway, (the sailor senshi were dropping like flies) so if they didn't execute this plan ALL the Outers would have been killed more or less at the same time! All the same you have to be very very tough to carry out a plan like that! None of the Inners could have gone through with a plan that will require them to kill their friends, even if those friends' fates are sealed anyway. But as seen in S, Haruka can easily desensitise her self if the end's justify the means, and michiru probably saw it in a similar light this time as well. The most amazing part is that the plan seems to have been an improvisation by Uranus and one look in the eyes of Neptune was all that was needed to communicate the plan! Perhaps Haruka and Michiru could have discussed such a plan before, but it certainly doesn't seem that way.

Alas, their plans were in vain as they couldn't destroy Galaxia with her own weapon (the bracelets) as they had expected because she had no star seed. Oh well, it was worth a try I suppose ^^;;

Hotaru / Sailor Saturn

We didn't see much of Saturn in "S," and we unfortunately only get to see her at crucial episodes of this series too. Oh, but how lovable she is! Why couldn't Chibi-Usa be more like her? So strong, calm, and brave in spite of her petite size. The way she twirls that huge glaive is so cool! Also, this is the first series where I get to hear her Japanese voice, and she really does have an amazing sweet (but not sickenly so) voice! My fave voice in the show! The only thing that is too bad is that they did away with her old "starr-broached" costume that was so cool and unique! But hey, she finally DID get a transformation...

Setsuna / Pluto

Setsuna really gets to wear some cool clothes this series, she also gets to enjoy an ice cream and shared some fun moments with the Inners. Nice to see her let her hair down a bit! I bet it feels great to get away from the gates of time for awhile! -- even if it's for Chaos!
