The Review

The main reason I made this page is not that I think it is the best season of SM, the "S" and "R" seasons are far better, but because it is the last season (forever? for a while? who knows) and there isn't all that much information about it on the web beyond the shrines to individual characters such as Seiya or Chibi Chibi. If you find any inaccuracies please let me know so I can iron them out!

There is a lot to like about the Sailorstars series. Firstly there's the new theme song, I have always loved "Moonlight Densetsu" the classic SM theme song used since series one (but updated with newer versions as time went by), so I was disappointed when I first heard that they have done away with this beautiful song. To my surprise I fell in love with the Sailorstars song too! I have always enjoyed the title sequence of each series, but I must say Sailorstars' title is by far my favorite, I particularly love the little dance routine each Inner did on the right half of the screen and the cute "normal life" thing they did on the left half. As with the previous series the opening title sequence really stresses the very tight bond between the five girls.

As always I love to watch the Inner girls interact, if the bond between Haruka and Michiru is almost psychic, the bond between the five girls is very much a family like bond, everybody cares about everybody else, and they also enjoy hanging out together socially. Naru-chan has totally disappeared in this series, I feel her position of Usagi's best friend has been redundant for a long time. It was also nice to see how close the Inners and the more mature, sophisticated, and austere Outers have become. The Inners treat the Outers like older sisters (except Saturn of course!), and the Outers are much more relaxed with them.

I thought Seiya / Sailor Star Fighter is quite an interesting character, the outer two less so, but I enjoy their theme background music and the song "Search for Your Love" is nice, if a little ordinary. I thought the scene where Seiya intercepted that bazooka blast for Sailor Moon was exquisitely done.

The story line of both arcs of the series is very good, although the pacing of the first is a little more exciting as it's a short arc.

There isn't much Chibi-Usa in this one, phew!

Flaws:

No Yuichirou! Whatever happened to one of my favorite minor characters, it's like he doesn't exist! Not even a mention!

No Rei episodes! Well, that's not entirely true, there is one rather lame one, but nothing of the caliber we see in "R", "S" and even "Super S". Poor Rei-chan just doesn't get much of a spot light in this series. If you don't like her I suppose you can count that as a plus (GRRRRRRR!!!!)

Sailor Mars did - however - get a very moving death scene which is the ultimate Rei & Usagi moment!

Usagi saved the day again! (yawn) I know she's the central character but I wish at least the other Inners would play a more active part at the end.
