DIPS (Dynamic IP Server) - visit http://DIPS.home.ml.org/ to find out more... |
Please Note: | I accepted a job with Credit Suisse Group (Group Risk Management) and will be moving back to Europe. Because of this relocation (first to Switzerland, then to the U.K.) I can only offer reduced support for DynamIP. Please try peer support in the DynamIP Discussion Group if you don't get a timely response to your e-mail inquiry. |

Please read the included file Readme.txt for additional information before you install DynamIP. Please do not report bugs which are already listed under "Unresolved Problems". Direct all other problem reports to cmu@bigfoot.com.
- | DIPS enhancements. |
- | Full DIPS capability (see http://DIPS.home.ml.org/ for details on this free service). If you have trouble with DIPS, please send e-mail to DIPS@bigfoot.com and not to me. Thanks in advance. |

Help file
Help is available in form of HTML pages. The file
help.EXE should have been copied to the DynamIP
installation directory (it's a self-expanding ZIP file). The
first time you use help from within DynamIP
you will be asked whether you want to unzip the help file (you
can obviously also just unzip it manually and then browse the
pages).
- | If you get something like "System Error &H80004005 (-2147467259). Unspecified error [OK]" check here for information on how to solve the problem. |
- | It seems that Windows NT 4.0 w/ ServicePack 3 installed is not happy about the file "Rasapi32.dll" that DynamIP v3.0 installed. Install this older version Rasapi32.dll v.4.0 if you get Kernel errors after installing DynamIP v3.0 final release. Note that DynamIP v3.02 does not overwrite your current file Rasapi32.dll anymore! |
- | If you have trouble using your dial-up connections in Windows95 after installing DynamIP v3.0 Final Release (e.g. errors in rnaapp.exe) you can either install this older version Rasapi32.dll v.4.0 into your ...\Windows\System directory or install the Dial-up Networking Upgrade for PPTP Windows 95. |
- | Microsoft has a fix available for a networking problem that sometimes crashes the TCP/IP stack and prevents you from using DUN until Win95 is rebootet. Read details about this problem in article Q168747 in the MS Knowledge Base. You can downlod the file Vtcpupd.exe (size: 253144 bytes) directly from the KB article. |
- | Just in case you're using an old INI file: the NTP Server tick.usno.navy.mil does not work anymore. You can use ntp.cc.utexas.edu or any other public server listed here or here. |
- | Error loading from file: make sure that you followed the instructions in Readme.txt when you installed DynamIP v3.02 (e.g. you must make sure that you've got version 3.01 of the control cmuTCP.ocx on your system!) |
- | IPchat does not see anybody else? Please note that DynamIP v3.02 uses a different ident string which is not compatible with versions prior to RC1 (if your friends still are using previous versions of DynamIP, maybe now would be a good time to upgrade...). |
- | Conflict with HotDogPro [see solution here] |
- | If you have trouble installing DynamIP or running it for the first time, use RegClean v4.1 to clean up your registry and then try again. |
- | Async upload results in all CAP filename on FTP server (uncheck Async upload in Setup|Uploader to solve this problem). If you like the Async feature, you will have to stick to all CAP directory/file names until MS fixes the FTP control. This is annoying, but there's really not much I can do about this. Sorry. |
- | If you have trouble with DIPS, please send e-mail to DIPS@bigfoot.com and not to me. Thanks in advance. |
