Its PhilosophyIn today's "Wintel"-dominated world of Personal Computers, there is an obvious way to distinguish oneself from the mass of the PC cloners market: by true technological innovation and delivering performance without compromises. Our hardware concept provides newest technology with up-to-date performance characteristics and economic use of resources. It is a product that has the power to put the fun back into computing. Its project name is PIOS ONE, and it will be shipped in two model variants, the transAM, which is adapted to the Amiga market, and the Maxxtrem, which will serve the Mac market.
Future Compatibility through Modular DesignThe original "PIOS ONE" hardware design impresses through a unique modular concept. CPU, Cache/RAM and the PCI bus controller circuitry reside on a separate daughterboard, the CPU Module. This board can be changed at any time, providing a maximum of scalablility and upgradability for our systems:"Buy one and feel safe!" We offer priceworthy entry level configurations, so that everyone can join the PowerPC world without being excluded from being able to upgrade to workstation niveau. Upgrades of the entry model to the top model are possible without problems and at reasonable expenses.
Open StandardsOur platform design is fully compliant with all PowerPC Platform (PPCP, also referred to as PReP or CHRP) specifications. PPCP is a reference design for computers based on the PowerPC family of microprocessors. This standard ensures the compatibility with all major operating systems. It allows the combination of the user-friendlyness of the MacOS, the power of UNIX, and the multimedia capabilities of the Amiga or of the new BeOS with the outstanding performance of up-to-date RISC-based hardware.Through our open architecture, our computers are well prepared for innovation. For example, we run the new and astounding Be Operating System (BeOS), a preview version of which ships with each delivered machine. Our platform is of course fully compatible with Java. New technological standards will be integrated as they evolve. All boards basing on this PIOS ONE design comply with the ATX standard form factor and are fully CE-approved.
Cost Efficiency and Customer ValueOur hardware uses standard components and interfaces widely available in the PC mass market wherever this makes sense. That helps us to cut costs and concentrate on the features that make our systems stand out.Our computers easily connect to off-the-shelf PC peripherals and hardware expansions. All necessary interfaces are included: PCI, ISA (not in the Maxxtrem variant), SCSI, EIDE, RS-232, Centronix, PS/2, MIDI, and even USB are standard on each machine. Additional interfaces like ADB and LocalTalk are available if you need them. Networkability can be provided through an Ethernet or ISDN card. Compare for yourself! Which other hardware vendor gives you this much flexibility and power? On own pages you find more details about the hardware and software of the PIOS ONE. |
