Sneak Previews

Fly!
Taking on Goliath on his own turf can always be a tricky proposition, especially when Goliath is in the form of the biggest and baddest software company in the world, Microsoft. Terminal Reality, aka David, seems bent on taking on the giant with a "flight simulator" of its own. And from the looks of it, it seems to be far superior than Microsoft's aging Flight Simulator '98.

Sim City 3000

It’s hard to believe that it’s been oh-so-many years since the original Sim City came out. What a lot of people don’t realize is that Sim City, and even Sim City 2000, were both originally Mac games before they migrated to the PC. Sadly, this trend has ended when Sim City 3000 was released on the PC months ahead of the Mac version. Still, this is one of those games that is great at any time, whether it’s this year or next.

American Civil War Soldie
r

Design, Inc. has been hard at it these days working on their latest title, American Civil War Soldier. This new game is the follow-up to their previous titles, Cannon Fire and Musket Fire. Both of which created the foundation upon which ACWS is based.

Bugdom
If you own an iMac then you've probably played Pangea's Nanosaur. Taking basic cues from Nanosaur—third-person view, a quest of salvation, 3D landscape full of beasties—and bringing them to the kingdom of the insects, Bugdom is a colorful flight of fancy straight through the looking-glass.

Cythera
RPGs are alive and well! At least that's what IMG writer David Simon said after taking a look at Cythera, the new RPG from Ambrosia Software.

Railroad Tycoon II

A few years have passed since Railroad Tycoon, but the fascination with this sim hasn't dwindled. Up and coming developer PopTop Software last year licensed Railroad Tycoon from Microprose to create a sequel. Many had doubts PopTop could create a sequel worthy of the original, but from the looks of it, Railroad Tycoon 2 is a winner and is much more than a sequel, it's practically a whole new game with incredible graphics and gameplay.

Reviews

Starcraft
In the last five years Blizzard has had a cascade of top grossing award winning games, the second last of which was Starcraft. This game was a phenomenon in and of itself, selling upwards of 1.5 million copies worldwide (according to Blizzard’s press release), and took real-time strategy/resource management gaming to new heights. This blockbuster game has now made its way to the smiley-faced screens of the Mac, complete with a one-button interface.

Pro Pinball: Big Race USA
Big Race USA is a reviewer's blessing and a reviewer's nightmare rolled into one. For fans of the Pro Pinball series, purchasing this game is the ultimate no-brainer; if you liked Pro Pinball: The Web or Pro Pinball: Timeshock, then BRUSA is absolutely without question your next purchase..

3D Ultra Nascar Pinball
Let's face it, everyone loves pinball ... the blinking lights, the fast paced action, racking up points, going for the big scores. But, can pinball and the sport of stock racing merge successfully? You bet, and that merging is called 3D Ultra NASCAR Pinball from Sierra Attractions..

Open GL, Apple, and Mac Gaming
Apple has decided to adopt OpenGL for the Mac... and there was much rejoicing. Finally, a widely used graphics language that others have already proven works time and time again. Something that Mac gamers can use in their arsenal, and more power for porting titles to the Mac.

IMG interviews the man behind Fly!, the hot new flight simulator from Terminal Reality!

Interview: IMG's Tuncer Deniz
Tuncer Deniz is a busy man. The co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Mac community's favorite gaming magazine (well it's my favorite gaming magazine, anyway) has a lot on his plate. And while he's one of those people who will always answer his e-mail, it's not always on the same day he receives it. Which is why, when I wanted to interview him for his own magazine, he promptly ignored it.

To Voodoo or not to Voodoo

With the release of the B&W G3s, Apple is shipping the new speedy Macs with ATI's Rage 128 boards, which features Rave and Open GL support. Is Voodoo dead? Micro Conversions, makers of the Game Wizard Voodoo 2 card, say no way, Voodoo is here to stay!

Quake 3 Arena First Impressions
Easily one of the most anticipated games of 1999, Quake 3 Arena Test was recently released for the Mac. Michael Eilers gives us the low down on this early version id Software's latest and greatest creation.

Interview: Cythera's Glenn Andreas
So you've checked out our Cythera preview (you have, right?). Now check out our interview with its creator, Glenn Andreas. Ambrosia's Andrew Welch also joins in and answers a few questions.
