  19. This guide was developed by the Plant Training Center,
  20. to provide a ready reference of information that  can be used by The Central
  21. Office Switchman during the performance of his daily work.

  26. In this part Class "A" reports are only covered. Future issues will have
  27. MTF Tests/Class C/Alarms/Trouble Recorder etc.

  29. Section #1 - Class "A" Reports

  32. CLASS "A" Reports
  33. -----------------
  34. Class "A" troubles are those reported by subcribers. Prompt and complete
  35. handling is very important. Propmtness because the subcribers service may be
  36. affected and completeness so that the customers service is not impaired  a 
  37. second time for the same reason. 
  38.  
  39. If the line is held out of service by euipment note the x-points closed and
  40. release the line hold magnet to allow the subcribers service. If necessary a
  41. channel plug may be inserted in the junctor switch portion of the linkage in
  42. order to release the subcriber's line sooner. The remaining linkage will be 
  43. help up. So therefore what is done in such problems is to actually trace 
  44. this held path and analyze to determine why it was held up. To keep Class "A"
  45. report to a minimum switchman analyze all trouble recorder cards as soon as
  46. they come in and mark each card for missing or false punches and compare with
  47. previous cards. In this way repeaters can be spotted quickly and acted upon.
  48. Usually switchman activate the continuity and ground test circuit of the
  49. markers at regular  intervals in order to pick up linkage tip and ring 
  50. troubles. Using this approach, along with regular testing procedures should
  51. keep common euipment troubles to a minimum.

  53. Here is a list of Class "A" trouble reports:

  56. CC - Cant call
  57. DCLR - Double Connection-Lift Receiver
  58. PS - Permanent Signal
  59. COO - Cutoff Outgoing
  60. DCO - Double Connection Outgoing
  61. CBDT - Cant Break Dial Tone
  62. DTWD - Dial Tone While Dialing
  63. DCWD - Double Connection While Dialing
  64. NAR - No Audible Ring
  65. GWN or INTC  - Gets Wrong Number of Intercept
  66. ATB - All Trunks Busy
  67. DA - Dont Answer
  68. GB-FB - Gets Busy-False Busy
  69. CH - Cant Hear
  70. CBH Cant Be Heard
  71. NSY - Noisy 
  72. DTRWT - Dial Tone Returns While Talking
  73. XT - Cross Talk
  74. COL Clicks On Line
  75. BDR - Cell Doesn't Ring
  76. DGC - Dont Get Calls
  77. RI - Reaches Intercept
  78. FRI Fails  to Reach Intercept
  79. CIE - Called in Error
  80. FB - False Busy
  81. BRCM - Bell Rings - Cant Meet 
  82. DCI - Double Connection Incoming  
  83. CT - Cant Trip Ringing
  84. COI - Cut OFf Incoming
  85. FDA - False Dont Answer

  88. Here are the explanations of Class "A" troubles occurances:

  92. 1) Open between HMDF and L.Lk. Frame.
  93. 2) Open L relay; Loose connection on L relay; open T or R connections on L.Lk.
  94.    Frame; Open hold magnet.
  95. 3) Paritially Energized L relay or Hold Magnet.
  96. 4) Hold magnet help operated.
  97. 5) Dirty contacts or no follow on line hold off normal contacts.
  98. 6) Line switch and junction switch cross points .
  99. 7) If heavy reports from one frame check LLMC.
  100. 8) Review trouble cards for DT Marker Trouble.
  101. 9) Routine Originating Registers for dial tone.

  105. 1) Check for bent select fingers on L.SW & all J.SW's.
  106. 2) Check for false operation of 2 or more line hold magnets on Incoming and
  107.    Outgoing calls.
  108. 3) Review trouble cards for  DT markers - especially "X" indicators
  109. 4) Review trouble cards on DT markers for LXP or JXP indicators.

  115. 3) If Linkage fails to release-trace and check for linkage or PSHT trouble.
