  3. During the following winter life is very hard for the animals.
  4. Food is short and conditions unpleasant.
  5. However to the outside world they turn a brave face pre-tending
  6. that the shortages do not exist even when starvation is staring
  7. them in the face.
  8.     
  9. To raise money the hens are forced to give up their eggs for
  10. sale and a revolt by them is harshly put down.
  11. All bad things that happen on the farm are blamed on Snowball
  12. and he is portrayed as a deadly enemy.
  13.     
  14. Napoleon assumes even more power and in a shocking scene orders
  15. the death of four young pigs and some other animals who have
  16. confessed to 'crimes'.

  18. Shocked by the excutions the animals seek comfort in singing
  19. 'Beasts of England' but are told that even this has been banned
  20. by Napoleon.

  22. The animals continue to work as hard as ever but although
  23. statistics say that their conditions are improving life still
  24. seems to get harder.
  25. Napoleon takes on more grand titles and continues to blame
  26. Snowball for all grievances.
  27. He sells timber to Frederick but later it is discovered that
  28. Frederick has paid with forged notes.

  30. Tension rises between the two neighbouring farms.

  32. Frederick and his men attack and destroy the windmill blowing
  33. it up. Although they are driven off by the enraged animals the
  34. cost in life and injury is high.

  36. The pigs now discover the delights of alcohol and another of
  37. the Seven Commandments is perverted.
