Central Visual Artists' Association was formed in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1977, and gained non-profit society status in 1978 , with one hundred members, which had by 1997 become ten members. The Association meets periodically, and its artists' practice involved collaborative projects.
Scope and content
The collection consists of a book entitled "Unsung Vancouver Landmarks," by the Central Visual Artists' Association, Vancouver: Central Visual Artists' Association, n.d., 17 x 25 cm, spiral bound and limited edition, a printed brochure advertising "Unsung Vancouver Landmarks," 9.5 x 21.5 cm; three sheets of "Universal Post" postage stamps produced by Central Visual Artists' Association, in plastic sleeves, 22 x 28 cm, signed in pencil by Barbara Seamon, Polly Pak, Henri Robideau, Shirley Lum, Anna Banana, Bill Thompson, Ed Varney, Peter Small, Jeanie Kamins, and Greg Zbitnew; two colour laser prints titled "CVAA PostCard Session," in a plastic sleeve, 21.5 x 28 cm; five issues of "Our Voice," 1979-1980, and two issues of CVAA Newsletter, 1984-1985; nine envelopes from the series of CVAA publications titled "Mixed Bag," Numbers 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13; a brief one page text describing the Central Visual Artists' Association since 1977, 21.5 x 28 cm; and an illustrated artists' book entitled "Fetish," Vancouver: Central Visual Artists' Association, 1995, 8 x 8 cm, bound in faux leopardskin, 95 pages, and boxed with an edition mark: "75/100."
