Sharon Norman is a painter born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1943.
Scope and content
The book consists of eighteen pages of colour photocopies of photoprints of the artist's paintings 1996-1997 from a series entitled "Emergence," described by the artist in a statement affixed to the book cover, and listed in a text affixed to the back cover; the book contains also some Haiku poetry.
Note
The artist stated the following: "The theme of this body of work, 'Emergence,' is my experience of the use of realism within the painterly abstraction. The colour photographs are images of my own photography transferred onto the canvas or paper. These images have a strong influence on the mood and the colours of the painting. It is if a small secret has appeared amid the paint taking us on a visual journey to an unknown place. Some of the paintings inspired a Haiku poem which is included with those paintings. The writing of the Haiku poetry brought me into the sense of the spirituality of the paintings, a natural extension of the work. These paintings embody the presence of light, the painterly quality and the spiritualism of the work. The mystery of what is inside the canvas' story becomes part of the experience."
