- TITLE :Case-Sensitivity Issues - Windows NT and UNIX/PC-NFS
- PRODUCT :Windows NT
- PROD/VER:3.10
- OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
- KEYWORDS:
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The information in this article applies to:
-
- - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
- - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- SYMPTOMS
- ========
-
- You may experience problems with File Manager and NFS between a system
- running Windows NT and a UNIX box or a computer running PC-NFS.
-
- CAUSE
- =====
-
- UNIX and PC-NFS are case-sensitive. The path changes to uppercase in the
- Windows NT Path box after deleting the drive letter, by design. However,
- the uppercase letters are not the same to the UNIX system.
-
- RESOLUTION
- ==========
-
- To avoid having this problem, do not use the Path list box in the Connect
- Network Drive dialog box; instead, retype the path in the Path box with
- proper case (uppercase/lowercase).
-
- STATUS
- ======
-
- Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows NT and
- Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and
- will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
- becomes available.

- ================
-
- Steps to Reproduce Problem
- --------------------------
-
- 1. From File Manager, select the icon to connect to a network disk.
-
- 2. In the Path box, type the path to a UNIX box or the PC-NFS box in
- lowercase.
-
- 3. When you choose the OK button, a connection is made to the destination
- that you typed in the Path box.
-
- 4. Disconnect from the network drive, and then try to reconnect by
- selecting the destination in the Path box.
-
- The entry you made in lowercase has been converted to uppercase. This
- causes the new connection to fail. This happens no matter which options you
- select during the initial connection.
