OCR: SAFFRON The dried stigmas of a fall-flowering Crocus. These scarlet- yellow stigmas must be picked by hand, (approximatley 225,000 of them to produce one pound of Saffron!) It is perhaps the most expensive spice in the world. The aromatic flavor is unique, and Saffron should be used in very small quantities. One recommendation suggests no more than 1/32 of a teaspoon added to a serving size for six to eight.
