Options allow you to tailor the game to your
individual needs. For example, you may control
the starting level used in the game by using
the 'Skill Level' option menu.
Option values are stored away at the end of each
session and retrieved at the start of the next.
In general, to change an option setting, follow
these steps:
1. Pull down the Options menu and select the
desired option. The selected option's dialog
box appears.
2. Make your changes and select OK.
There are two basic types of dialog boxes.
The first type contains a number in its center,
and arrows pointing away from it on each side.
For example, the Volume and MIDI Channel dialogs.
To decrease the number, select the left arrow.
To increase the number, select the right arrow.
The second type asks you a Yes/No or Cancel/OK
question. Select the appropriate answer button.
Now for some information about a few commonly
used options.
Skill Level: Once you get better at the game
it is annoying to start at LEVEL 1 every time. Use
this option to adjust your initial level of play.
Each Skill Level is equivalent to six game levels.
For instance, if you select the second Skill
Level, 'Getting better', you will begin play at
LEVEL 7.
Play Mode: You may run the game in one of three
methods of play.
Slow mode: This simply doubles the play time
for each level. This makes play much easier -
but scores are halved.
Normal mode: Default.
Automatic mode: This mode is designed for use
with non-MIDI instruments. The game simply
presents each drill, waits for a few seconds
and then plays the drill through your sound
hardware. The player should play the drill
during the delay and then listen to the
playback to hear if they were correct.
Playback delay: Adjusts the playback delay
for automatic play.
Playback speed: Adjusts the tempo of the
drill playback for automatic play.
Volume: Changes the volume of sounds played by
the computer. This option only affects sound
hardware that supports volume adjustment. The
internal speaker of your computer DOES NOT
support volume adjustment.
MIDI Channel: If you have a MIDI controller
card, you may adjust the channel that is used
to play sounds. The game does not care about
the channel used for input.
MIDI Thru: Incoming MIDI messages are directly
echoed out to a sound module if you select 'YES"
for this option.
All notes off: Occasionally, notes that you play
into the program are jumbled up and some notes
may not get turned off. Use this option to shut
off any annoying sustained notes.
When you quit the game, you have the opportunity
to save your current option settings to disk. If
you have made any changes in the options since
you started, the game asks if you want to save
those changes. Select YES to save the changes, NO
to abandon them.
