-- Peacocks are actually Peafowl. The males are called peacocks; females are called peahens.
-- Male peacocks have trains of blue, green, and gold feathers that have eyes on the ends that change color from blue-green and gold-bronze, to gold and brown. A short, stiff tail holds up their trains.
-- Male peacocks grow to be about 7 or 8 feet long (longer than your bed). Their trains take up about 3 or 4 feet--or about half--of their total length.
-- Peahens have no trains and are a dull brown color. They lay 4 to 8 off-white eggs at a time in a shallow hole in the ground.
-- There are two kinds of peafowl: green and blue. Green peacocks must be kept apart from other birds because they have aggressive tempers. Blue peafowl can live in colder places than green peafowl.
-- Peafowl rely on their strong legs to escape enemies such as wildcats and jackals.
