- Naphthalene can have the effect of boosting the octane slightly. Perhaps
- more importantly, it is a major ingredient in fuel de-icing additives and
- can provide a "cure" for fuel contaminated with water as it emulsifies water
- in gasoline. Be advised that products sold as "mothballs" have components
- other than naphta, and may not have desirable effects on fuel or your car.
- I personally would not "try" this unless faced with being disabled with
- contaminated fuel.
