- I am in the market for a CDROM drive to attach to my Adaptec 1542B SCSI
- controller. I have borrowed and used a Toshiba XM3301, and it works well,
- even in OS/2. I am not sure if I want to buy my own Toshiba, or get something
- else. I suppose something that is MPC compatible would be nice.
-
- I have a price list from a local company that has a Texel drive. Does anyone
- know anything about these drives? They have a couple models, all MPC ready.
- The cheaper one is 340ms access, and 150Kb/sec transfer. The better one is
- 265ms access and 300Kb/sec transfer. This better model is priced at $449.
- This sounds fairly reasonable, given that it is dual-speed with fast transfer
- rate. It claims to be fully SCSI compatible, and the company claims to have
- Adaptec drivers, although the ASW-410 package (Adaptec CDROM driver kit)
- doesn't list this brand of drive. Is this their own mechanism, or a mechanism
- from a more well know manufacturer (like NEC, or Sony, etc) just re-packaged?
-
- I have seen the XM3301 priced at $399, but I think it is only 150kb/sec
- transfer, and I would like to get the newer faster drives if it is only a
- few $$ more.
-
- Any opinions are welcome.
-
- Thanks mucho,
-
