- I imagine that these errors are due to something I'm
- doing (or not doing) but I have no idea as to what that
- could be. So I am asking for help.
-
- I have a Gateway 2000 386/33 that I have recently installed
- the SpeedStar 24X. I have identified the following problems
- (each of which occur in MS Windows):
-
- 1. I cannot get the 800x600x32k to work. Windows starts up
- but the screen is scrambled. It appears that the timings are
- off. I tried different timing settings, but the ones that
- give me a clear picture at other resolutions and colors
- do not work.
-
- 2. With 640x480x16mil I have encountered two problems. The
- first has to do with Windows complaining about memory for
- the icons. Some icons appear as a black box.
-
- 3. The other problem in 640x480x16mil is that is appears
- to running in 640x480x16. I.e. I use a gif viewer and the
- colors are dithered. The picture looks better in 640x480x32k
- than it does in 640x480x16mil.
-
- 4. While working in 1024x768x256, I think is after switching
- to a full screen DOS window, the text will be scrambled in
- Windows. I.e. the title bar, menus, etc. will have little
- dots surrounding the words, making it illegible.
-
- 5. In 640x480x16, in Windows, if I move the cursor to the
- far right edge of the screen, I get a small amount of static
- where the cursor is.
-
-
- The problem may be related to CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT.
- I don't have a printout of the files, but working from
- memory:
-
- I removed 1 line from each file which was for the previous
- video card, a Diamond SpeedStar.
-
- The installation program added a line to my AUTOEXEC.BAT:
- c:\ss24x\win31drv
- or something similiar.
-
- No other changes to CONFIG.SYS.
-
-
- Does anybody have an idea as to what is causing these problems?
-
- Hardware Config:
- GW2000 386/33
- 4MB Ram
- Crystal Scan 1024ni Monitor
- Telepath (Gateway) Modem
-
-
- Any help would be greatly appreciated,
