- PLI makes the only drive I've seen with Amiga drivers included, and it's
- a SCSI drive. This particular floptical drive uses 21MB diskettes, which
- cost about $20 each, and costs about $650 with one "free" disk. I understand
- there's an internal 5.25" form factor drive, but I've only seen the external
- drives, which are about the size of most external HD units. The drive will
- also read standard MS-DOS format diskettes (but not Amiga format) - both HD
- and DD. Unless the price of the drive comes down, it's actually cheaper to
- buy hard drives until you get about 8 disks, so the only real use for these
- things is if you need to get 21MB onto something you can put in your pocket,
- lock up in a safe, hide behind a picture frame, or whatever (for example,
- you might want to hide your collection of nude gifs from your SO and anyone
- else with taste, so you could just slap them on a few of these disks and
- put them somewhere safe (more serious applications do exist...)). They're
- definitely not for everyone at current cost... ...when/if they become
- reasonably priced, they would be a nice replacement for completely magnetic
- drives.
