- Bah. There's a *vast* difference between electronic chips and drive mechanics.
- If you consider it such a dangerous problem, then I'm sure you never use
- the Amiga operating system which completely lacks memory protection between
- the applications.

- Error Data Correction? Commonly used on these dam*ed harddisks that we are
- forced to live with, in order to be able to recover minor disk faults without
- the computer ever noticing. Bascially a method to encode data into the real
- data stream that makes it contain redundant information, so you can detect and
- restore faulty bits up a certain limit. If the disk fault is so severe that
- more bits are damaged than the EDC protocol is able to repair, the drive will
- notice and retry the read operation upto a certain limit. If that failes too,
- your luck just ran out.
