  18. Bah. There's a *vast* difference between electronic chips and drive mechanics.
  19. If you consider it such a dangerous problem, then I'm sure you never use
  20. the Amiga operating system which completely lacks memory protection between
  21. the applications.

  23. I'll celebrate the day when I'll throw away much harddisks and replace them 
  24. with something with not a single moving mechanical part in it. That day keeps 
  25. comming closer and closer for every day that passes.

  31. Error Data Correction? Commonly used on these dam*ed harddisks that we are 
  32. forced to live with, in order to be able to recover minor disk faults without 
  33. the computer ever noticing. Bascially a method to encode data into the real 
  34. data stream that makes it contain redundant information, so you can detect and 
  35. restore faulty bits up a certain limit. If the disk fault is so severe that 
  36. more bits are damaged than the EDC protocol is able to repair, the drive will 
  37. notice and retry the read operation upto a certain limit. If that failes too, 
  38. your luck just ran out.
