- :Yesterday, my OS/2 system was behaving very strangly. The problem
- :turned out to be that the OS/2 partition was full. I rebooted and
- :looked at what was taking up so much room ( the swapfile was on another
- :partition ). The problem was the OS2SYS.INI file. It grew to around 5
- :megabytes! I deleted the huge file and replaced it with an older one.
- :However, this one is also growing. It started at around 108 K and now
- :it's up to 1.5 megabytes. In just one day it grew over a megabyte!
- :Does anybody know what the problem might be? Until I find a solution,
- :I'll have to replace the INI file every few days. BTW, I have the
- :Service Pack installed on a pure GA system so I suspect a bug in the
- :Service Pack.

- I had the same problem. Mine hit 4.5 megs before I realized what was doing it.
- Whenever I opened the Settings menu on objects (that hadn't had their settings
- menu opened before) the os2sys.ini file grew by 40 kb.
-
- Now I only started doing this recently, so I don't know if this "feature"
- existed before.
-
-
- All I can suggets is: open up a window, and type dir \os2\os2sys.ini
- periodically, and see if you can isolate when the os2sys.ini grows.
- Perhaps you have the same prolem as I do, but who knows.
-
- Once you isolate the cause, stop doing it,, and call IBM.
-
- There are a couple of programs you might find useful:
- cpyini, and a package called inimaint. Both will let you copy the
- *valid* data out of os2sys.ini, into a new file. THen you can replace
- os2sys.ini with the corrected one. This is helpful if you don't want to
- lose all your settings. NOTE: this only reverses the problem, it does
- not eliminate it.
-
- By os2sys.ini has creeped up to 140K recently, so I'll have to reset it
- again when it gets too big. 4, 5, 6 megs for OS2sys.ini is way too big.
- this is a bug.
