  14. At my place of work, we are presently trying to decide which Email
  15. package to use in an enterprise-wide capacity.  We are presently
  16. installing a communications backbone which will support a large (100s of
  17. nodes) Novell-based LAN.  In the future, we hope to add an Internet
  18. gateway to the local university, so that all of our users may have mail
  19. access to the Internet (this will no doubt involve adding an Internet
  20. host of some kind -- we need something with an IP address, and to route
  21. mail, and to resolve addresses?).

  40. The email packages we are looking at are CC:mail, MS mail, and Beyond
  41. Mail.

  43. I know that I have given a rather vague picture of our eventual
  44. configuration.  The important piece is that we need to have mail for
  45. user A, coming in off the Internet in an Internet format, translated to
  46. whatever message standard our LAN mail package uses, and filed with the
  47. user's mail agent (probably an NLM running on a Novell file server?).  I
  48. think that the three mail packages mentioned above purport to do that,
  49. but we are unable to verify this at the present time.

  51. My question then, is:

  53.    * Have you had experience using a LAN-based mail package coupled with
  54.      an Internet connectivity requirement?  (ie. Are you presently
  55.      operating a setup similar to the one shown above, and with which
  56.      products, and with how much success?)
