  21. Hayes ESP Communications Accelerator Built In for 
  22. High-Speed Data Integrity and Increased Throughput

  24.         ATLANTA, GA, 4 November 1992 -- Hayes Microcomputer
  25. Products, Inc. today announced three internal OPTIMA data + fax
  26. modems which provide data communications and send/receive fax
  27. capabilities.  In addition to supporting CCITT V.42 error-control
  28. and V.42 bis data compression, these products come bundled with free
  29. Smartcom FAX and Smartcom EZ data communications software.

  31.         OPTIMA 144B + FAX144 provides data throughput to 57,600
  32. bit/s and fax transmission to 14,400 bit/s; OPTIMA 96B + FAX96
  33. provides data throughput to 38,400 bit/s and fax transmission to
  34. 9600 bit/s; and OPTIMA 24B + FAX96 provides both data and fax
  35. transmission to 9600 bit/s.  These products are for IBM XT/AT
  36. computers and compatibles, and support asynchronous communications
  37. as well as Hayes AutoSync.

  39.         In addition, OPTIMA 144B + FAX144 and OPTIMA 96B + FAX96
  40. have Hayes ESP Communications Accelerator, a dedicated
  41. communications co-processor, built into these internal modems.  This
  42. capability ensures data integrity and increases data throughput
  43. performance when transmitting data at high speeds in multitasking or
  44. network operating system environments.  To support this capability,
  45. a Hayes ESP Driver for Windows Version 3.1 is included.

  47.         "The external OPTIMA product line, brought to the market
  48. over a year ago, has been the most successful product introduction
  49. in Hayes history," said Hayes President Dennis C. Hayes.  "Now we
  50. are providing high-quality, competitively-priced, internal versions
  51. with the added benefit of Hayes ESP Communications Accelerator.

  53.         All three products come with Smartcom EZ communications
  54. software and Smartcom FAX.  Smartcom FAX is a command line and
  55. menu-driven program that allows users to fax documents directly from
  56. their computers, as well as receive fax messages and then view,
  57. rotate, flip, print or save the message to disk.

  59.         OPTIMA 144B + FAX144, OPTIMA 96B + FAX96 and OPTIMA 24B +
  60. FAX96 will be available first quarter 1993 for US$519/CDN$699,
  61. US$419/CDN$569, and US$149/CDN$199, respectively.  The products will
  62. be available throughout the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the
  63. Caribbean.  The products carry a two year limited performance
  64. warranty.  In addition, a special offer by Hayes, available in the
  65. U.S. and Canada only, allows users to obtain a free extension of the
  66. limited performance warranty for a total of five years coverage when
  67. an OPTIMA product is registered within 90 days of purchase by mail
  68. or through Online With Hayes bulletin board system.
