  19. HAYES ANNOUNCES DATA + FAX MODEM
  20. FOR PCMCIA ENVIRONMENT
  21.  
  22.         ATLANTA, GA, 4 November 1992 -- Hayes Microcomputer
  23. Products, Inc. today announced its commitment to the PCMCIA
  24. environment by introducing Hayes Smartmodem OPTIMA 2400 + FAX96 for
  25. PCMCIA.  For US$399 and CDN$529, this internal, credit card size
  26. modem supports CCITT V.42 error-control and CCITT V.42 bis data
  27. compression for data and fax transmission to 9600 bit/s.

  29.         OPTIMA 24 + FAX96 for PCMCIA offers a perfect complement for
  30. companies that have standardized on Smartmodem 2400 and OPTIMA 24 +
  31. FAX96 for the office and now want the advanced features for their
  32. portable computers equipped with PCMCIA slots. OPTIMA 24 + FAX96 for
  33. PCMCIA supports Hayes AutoSync and is powered by a PCMCIA Bus,
  34. requiring no external power.  The modem provides asynchronous
  35. communications to information systems, corporate hosts, corporate
  36. LANs and Group 3 fax machines.

  39. first introducing Pocket Edition 2400, and today we strengthen this
  40. commitment by introducing our first OPTIMA product for the PCMCIA
  41. environment," said Hayes President Dennis C. Hayes.  "We have been
  42. involved in the PCMCIA standards work for some time.  Our entry into
  43. this market at this time represents our belief that the PCMCIA form
  44. factor will become an important market segment in 1993."

  46.         The modem comes packaged with a telco cable and telephone
  47. connector module with one RJ-11 phone jack, and a carrying case, as
  48. well as Smartcom EZ and Smartcom FAX communications software for DOS
  49. computers.  Smartcom EZ is a simple-to-use communications software
  50. program that enables users to access PCs and online or BBS services.
  51.  Smartcom FAX is a command line and menu-driven program that allows
  52. users to fax documents directly from their computers.  Users may
  53. also receive fax messages and then view, rotate, flip, print or save
  54. the message to disk.

  56.         OPTIMA 24 + FAX96 for PCMCIA will be available first quarter
  57. 1993 in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean.  A
  58. special offer by Hayes, in the U.S. and Canada only, allows users to
  59. obtain a free extension of the limited performance warranty for a
  60. total of five years coverage when an OPTIMA product is registered
  61. within 90 days of purchase by mail or through Online with Hayes
  62. bulletin board system.  Smartcom EZ can be upgraded to Smartcom for
  63. Windows V1.0 for US$75/CDN$95 and to Smartcom Exec V3.0 for
  64. US$55/CDN$65.
