  19. Explain what happened to capability based architectures -- see, for example,
  20. Levy's "Capability Based Computer Systems", Digital, 1984.  It was a great
  21. idea, with strong coupling to what we now call object oriented systems,
  22. yet hardly anyone cares about such systems today.

  24. To add insult to injury, it's worth noting that the Intel 80x86, where x>1,
  25. is a fairly general capability based hardware architecture, but no operating
  26. system for this family that I know of takes significant advantage of this.
