- Some drum brake systems have automatic adjusters, and some
- have manual ones. Manual ones need to be adjusted every so often,
- and under extreme use, the automatic ones won't be able to keep up
- the shoe's material wearing away. My '73 datsun has manual, but my late
- 60's Bonnevilles have automatic. The automatic ones can be
- adjusted manually as well...best bet is to drive to a parts store and
- check out the Haynes/Chiltons manual to see how to do it.
-
- Typically the adjuster will be a device that spreads the
- shoes apart, and is directly opposite of the wheel cylinder
- (the piston gismo that pushes out the brake shoes when you
- press the non-parking brake pedal). Perhaps someone has more
- specific mazda experience and can tell you the exact procedure.
