- I am interested in knowing general causes of blue smoke being emitted
- from the exhaust of an old car. In particular I have an 1979 VW Polo
- (bit smaller than a Golf) which tends to emit blue smoke after being
- in a lot of traffic, or after being driven for a long time at high
- revs (eg. motorway driving ~70mph). After an oil change, there isn't
- much smoke at all, until about 3/4 weeks later when it starts to reappear.
-
- o) Is this just due to old age and engine wear?
- o) What can be done to combat it?
- o) Is adjustment of the engine timing a possible/partial solution?
- o) Does it have anything to do with bad oil seals on the pistons?
-
- Any help much appreciated - please email to iainw@bnr.ca and I will
- post a summary.
-
- Also, please could someone send me a FAQ list for this newsgroup if
- one exists - if it doesn't, then don't bother ;-)
-
- Cheers.
