  13. Can anyone explain the following joke?

  15. In Winning Ways, by Birkamp, Conway and Guy, in Volume 2, where it talks
  16. about topological puzzles, magic mirrors, magic movies and things, there
  17. is a double page full of puzzles, lettered (a)-(j). They all seem fairly
  18. easy [with the possible exception of (g), which I can't do in my head],
  19. except for (j), which is as follows (somewhat distorted):

  47. Everything except the string is rigid.
  48. The puzzle is to remove the ring.

  50. The book, for those who haven't come across it, is riddled with riddles
  51. and choked with jokes, so this could be another, but if so then I'm
  52. suffering from a sense of humour failure. Maybe it's a (bad) picture of
  53. one of the authors by another??
