- I am having the same problem with my 1986 4Runner! I found out that in
- 90% of the cases it is the crankshaft seal (yes1), where a rubber lip
- actually can wear a grove into the metal. The mechanic I bought my
- 4Runner from told me that there is a kit available to fix this problem
- without having to replace the crankshaft. The John Muir Idiot Book
- ("How to keep your Toyota Pickup Alive" - don't have it? get it!) talks
- about this problem and describes the procedure to replace the seal.
- Happy Toy-fixin...
