  23. I recently had my car painted by Maaco.  I got a basic external paintjob
  24. plus a touch of body work.  I decided to strip the car as much as possible
  25. myself, and proceeded to remove trim, bumpers, grills, lights, etc.

  29. They did most of the specified bodywork, but missed some.  They filled in
  30. several holes with putty, which was a problem, since these holes were
  31. supposed to be there for the trim.  They painted the door handles and the
  32. door locks.  These were not supposed to get painted (some of which were
  33. either chrome, plastic, or a different color). The masking job left a few
  34. spots of the original paint showing through (which they later painted over
  35. by hand with yet another color).

  37. In the end, I had to take the car in about 6 times to get it cleaned up.

  39. There is still some primer overspray inside the doors, and they are not
  40. able or willing to clean it up.

  44. I'm reasonably happy with the final results now, but was frustrated at
  45. their incompetence at the time.  I imagine that if the guy who does the
  46. masking had forgoten to mask off the glass on my car, the idiot who sprayed 
  47. it would have painted the windows.

  49. If you end up going there, take in a copy of this, and get the owner to 
  50. sign a document stating that if you have any of the problems listed here,
  51. you'll get the entire job for half price.  Let us know his reaction.
