- Sure it is possible to play CD on workstation A and hear it on B. The
- only caveat is that you will not hear it with CD quality. The Sun
- Sparcstation's audio device can only record and playback telephone
- quality sound. Further, the Sparcstation does not have the ability to
- pull audio data through its databus.
-
- The solution: The SUN CD-ROM has an audio plug in the front. Buy or
- build a male <-> male cable that will plug into the Sun's microphone
- cable. There are two programs that I know of that can control the CD
- player: one is called 'xcd' and the other 'workman'. Not sure on
- which FTP site they are available, but you can use one of the archie
- servers to find them. The next piece of software that you will need
- is Guido van Rossum's 'radio' program. Once again use archie to find
- it.
-
- xcd or workman: programs to control the audio CD in a SUN CD-ROM.
- radio: program to send sound over network from workstation A -> B.
-
- +------+ m-m audio +-----+ +---- workstation x
- |cd-rom+----------->|sparc+-----net-----+------ workstation y
- +------+ cable +-----+ +----- workstation z
-
- What are you really doing... playing CD on CD-ROM, recording it using
- the sun's audio device (with radio), which sends it over the net to
- workstation(s).
-
- If you have any trouble finding the above listed programs don't
- hesitate to contact me.

- Good Luck!
