- I just tried installing a new version of Word (no flames, please!) on
- my updated A/UX 3.0 system. Though I had my doubts ("which System
- Folder will it try to access? My personal one, I hoped ..."), I went
- ahead and "double clicked" on the "Word Installer" icon.
-
- Though it began "almost normally", things got ugly fast. I decided to
- abort the install and check others' experience and wisdom.
-
- So, how do I install something like Now Utilities, MS Word, MathType
- (that needs to add fonts to *some* System file), and other applications
- into a Un*x file system (*not* a MacOS file system) while remaining
- under A/UX? Most of these new apps no longer use a "drag this there,
- and drag that there" installation approach. Instead, they use the
- fancy Apple Installer program (Word uses v3.3) ...
-
- I've got a "dinky" MacOS file system that I could temporarily install
- things in. But, it would probably install resources in *its* System
- file, not my personal one. It would be an error-prone process trying
- to find what else it did (e.g., creation of Preferences, Translators,
- ... folders).
-
- Not to mention that I'd have to leave A/UX and boot the MacOS.
-
- Please, tell me there's an easier way!
