- Yes, _IBMR2 identifies "RISC System/6000" hardware while _AIX
- identifies AIX operating system. As to why _IBMR2 was chosen,
- those present-at-the-creation will have to explain.

- Unfortunately I do not know of any way to reliably distinguish
- between AIX 3.1 and AIX 3.2 however desirable that might be.
