- Today I was pleased to see that my Default Application utility, version 1.0d5,
- has finally appeared on comp.binaries.mac. I UnBinHexed the archive, just out
- of curiosity, and was rather surprised to discover that it was a StuffIt 1.5.1
- archive.
-
- I'm a registered owner of StuffIt Deluxe. All the stuff I post on the net
- is exclusively in StuffIt Deluxe format. So somebody had obviously taken it
- upon themselves to create a new archive, instead of using the one I posted.
-
- Now the question is: why? Did I contravene some official newsgroup policy
- with my original archive? Are StuffIt Deluxe archives not acceptable? Why
- wasn't I told?
-
- As it was, I now have the situation that a posting has appeared on a USENET
- newsgroup, under my name, of which I am not actually the author. If there is
- any problem with that archive not being readable, or perhaps if a file had
- been missed, I am the one who's going to get hassled about it.
-
- I don't like this situation. We have enough problems with viruses and Trojan
- horses and things, without more people putting their hands in, adding extra
- steps on the way from getting a set of files from me to you.
